In World War II, when inflatable life rafts were first produced in large numbers, they were all colored yellow because it was thought that yellow would be easiest to see in terms of being spotted by rescuers. When manufacturers first began making PVC boats, they were also grey, in the same fashion as Hypalon boats. But it is relatively easy to add colors to PVC, so PVC boats began to be produced in a variety of colors, including white, red an lue.

If you are trying to decide on a color for your upcoming inflatable boat purchase, the best color depends entirely on what you will be doing with your inflatable boat. Brightly colored boats are easier to spot, so they make good life raf and dinghies. If you will be using your inflatable boat for hunting activities, then dull green or a color that provides good camouflage would be best. Or you might simply buy a boat in whichever color is your favorite, if you feel no need to match the color to your exact need.
