Buying A New Inflatable Boat

Many people are simply not comfortable with the idea of purchasing and using a used boat or perhaps, they are simply unable to find someone selling a used boat that fits their requirements. Whatever the reason might be, the only choice t leaves is to purchase a new inflatable boat. The advantage to purchasing a new inflatable boat is that the entire process is simpler as compared to purchase a used boat. You need not worry about the condition of the boat, because new boats are generally in excellent condition when you buy them. And if problems arise after you purchase a new boat, the manufacturer's warranty should cover you. The only thing that you will have to keep in mind when buying a new inflatable boat, then, is if you are thinking about buying a boat from an unknown brand.

Buy a Name Brand

Here's an interesting anecdote. Diego Tavares, ( name changed to protect his identity), bought a brand new inflatable boat that, called the Bombablaster 15 ( again, name changed for the purposes of protecting the identity of the manufact r). Diego had attended a local boat show and found that the deal being offered on the Bombablaster 15 was simply too good to pass up - a 50% discount off retail, instant financing, and an unlimited warranty for up to 5 years seemed too good to be true. It was.

The first snag Diego encountered was when he discovered that the foot pump included with his new boat was entirely inadequate, and it took him over half an hour of back-breaking work just to inflate the seat. Upon contacting the manufact r, he was told that the optional electric pump would set him back an additional $122.50. Considering that he did not have hours to spend just inflating his boat, Diego decided to grit his teeth and buy the electric pump.

After using his boat for the first time, Diego then discovered that the manufacturer's claims about how compact the boat was were entirely inaccurate after the boat had been removed from the packaging. Try as he might, there was simply n ay Diego could get the boat to fit back into its storage bag.

Diego's next discovery was that, although the manufacturer had rated the raft compatible with engines of up to 10 horsepower, Diego's 9 horsepower outboard motor severely weighted the back end of his Bombablaster. And when he gave the en e some gas, the bow rose straight out of the water and threatened to tip right over backwards. Diego eventually solved that problem by obtaining a long throttle extension that allowed him to sit in the bow of the boat, weighing it down with his body weight, so that it would not simply flip over backwards once he gunned the engine. In truth, this solution barely worked, as Diego's weight was only just enough to keep the bow down as he drove the boat to planing speed.

Despite the many problems he faced, Diego learned to be content with his new boat, and at the end of the first season he put it into storage with the intention of bringing it back out again next season. At the start of the next season, h ver, when he unrolled his Bombablaster and attempted to inflate it again, Diego found that one of the seams had given way and the boat was no longer operable.

Finally frustrated beyond measure, Diego sent the manufacturer a lengthy letter, demanding that they honor their 5 year warranty on seams. Diego waited for a month without receiving an answer, and when he gave up and called the manufactu 's number, he discovered that the line had been disconnected and that there was no way to contact them.

This is a story that is constantly being repeated - albeit in slightly different forms - all around the country. The key lesson is that if you are looking to purchase a new inflatable boat, then you would be much better off in the long r buying a boat from a reputable manufacturer, even if you might have to pay slightly more for such a boat than if you were to purchase a boat from one of the unknown manufacturers. At the end of the day, you will be thankful that you were wi lling to pay a little more for the quality and reassurance that named brands provide.
